You May be Wondering...
How is this more helpful than a "calm down corner"?
In short, these tools can be used in a calm-down corner.
Part of what you'll learn with these tools is how to calm down no matter where you are. In our Power Ups, you'll learn how kids learn to regulate their emotions and how, over time, kids move from needing you to regulate their emotions to being able to do it on their own.
Calm-down corners are designated spaces in a home where you can go to help your child regulate their emotions, but because of the way kids' brains and emotions develop, they will never work as somewhere you send your kids to help themselves.
Our tools are developed to act as a roadmap of emotional literacy, so your kids can truly master their own emotions and see them as helpful, rather than something making them uncomfortable. And considering emotional literacy is the #1 indicator of future happiness, we'd say that's a pretty important skill.
How do I teach this if I'm not good at it yet?
Very few of us are, friend. You're not alone.
We weren't taught this stuff as kids, and that's part of why we know it's so important for our own kids!
We've designed every tool in our toolbox so that you can learn right alongside your kids. You only have to be one step ahead of them — and because your brain is fully developed, you're already there. You got this!
How will I know how to use this? What's a Power Up?
We've built our tools to be pretty self-explanatory, but we've also created digital Power Ups that help you supercharge every tool.
We’ve spent over a year distilling the most important research and thick parenting books into a totally approachable, not-boring Power Up™ PDF that you’ll actually read. Remember: you don’t need to be a superhero to be an incredible parent. You just need the right tools, and you need them to be easy to execute. We got you.Learn everything you need (and nothing you don’t) about how to teach the vital mental health skill of Building Connection. Each Power Up™ includes:
✔ A quick-start guide to using the physical tool and implementing it in your household,
✔ Easy-to-read, one-page or less "deep dives" on the topic so you really understand it,
✔ Research and resources to learn about why each skill is important and how you'll know that you've succeeded in teaching it,
✔ Printable Coloring Sheets + Activity pages for kids to do without your assistance, reinforcing what they've learned and providing a reminder of the benefits of using the skill,
✔ Optional video Q&As (they're also written out in the Power Up booklet) and audio content to listen to at your convenience (and only if you want to!),
✔ Answers to frequently asked questions about each skill (and the ability to submit your own, to be answered by our experts),
✔ Recommended additional resources if you want to take a deeper dive on the topic
